No, I have no idea why, either, but some people seem to think checking out someone's bookshelves is a direct route to understanding them (the person, I mean, not the shelves).
Personally, I think that's crap. And you are also suffering from the fact I've chosen three shelves which groan with books that are directly related to the enthusiasms of Reciprocating Motion -- railways, architecture and arty porn.
But if you think I'm letting you see any of the other shelves you just don't know me at all. So there.

You're right that you can't understand someone by looking at the titles of some of his books. But you can learn details about the person. For example in your case, we learn that you can read French, Spanish and possibly German and Dutch. Glad you're back in communication.
