Surprises

The new extension of the London Overground officially opened today, now operating all the way from Dalston down to West Croydon (and here's proof that I actually ventured into that Godforsaken place):

The joy of a new line is that it suddenly opens up new possibilities -- take lovely Hoxton station, for example:

From the northbound platforms you can actually see into the gardens of the Geffrye Museum:

The Geffrye is one of those little-known places that is utterly delightful. A free museum, it's a celebration of domestic interiors, furniture and furnishings, from about the 17th century to today, all laid out in a delightful former almshouse (and a rather jolly modern extension).

Unlike most of The Gays I'm not actually fascinated by interior design so, for me, the gardens are more interesting -- again, laid out to tell a historical story that matches the rooms inside.

On a day like today they were absolutely blissful.

Oh, and the restaurant is pretty decent, too -- though don't go if you're in a hurry.
