Contained fun

I said I'd post some more container architecture, this time focussed on holiday homes. Let's start with this delightful concept (apologies it's such a poor image):


I love the way the swimming pool is just another sunken container. Genius! And note the quiet, 1st floor balcony at the other end.

This next one has been built: two containers arranged in a cruciform:


The plan is really simple, but shows a self-contained cottage that also has a rather sweet roof terrace (though I'd be tempted to extend the terrace by arranging the containers in a T rather than an X):


The interior uses those weird pigeon steps as a space-saver:


This next trio of photos shows a series of self-contained "cabins" built as part of an artists' retreat:


Effectively a container version of a motel...


Here a "green" roof is used both to help insulate but also to reduce the environmental impact in every sense:


From tiny to rather grand:


This is a "cheat" because it features a central area that is bespoke-built to connect the containers, rather than being all container:


But there's something deliciously lofty about its aspirations. It feels spacious and impressive:


Let's finish with a "back to basics" approach -- five self-contained cabins, this time deep in the Texas badlands:


These have a "floating" roof above the containers, to provide both ventilation space and shade from the torrid sun.


They needed to be left uninhabited for lengthy periods, and the containers offered higher security than a normal building -- they have, of course, built-in steel shutters.


The rusty orange colour fits really well into this landscape (and containers can be seen from time to time on a distant freight railway, further grounding them in their setting).


Yeah, I want to get building.
