This sleek-looking machine is a Trans-Pennine Express diesel multiple unit, introduced in 1960, and designed to tackle the very challenging route across England's central mountain spine:
I don't have anything else to add, really. This is just a moment to feast your eyes in quiet enjoyment.

Quiet enjoyment, yes - but I'll speak anyway! In the sixties my annual birthday treat was a railway trip from Yorkshire to the Bellevue Zoo in Manchester. My railway knowledge is poor but this picture is like something from a far off dream. Thank you so much.
