Vultures

So much to tell you but, alas, am swamped with evenings out at the moment, so no time. It's very frustrating.

I wouldn't mind but I don't even like evenings out...

Although this evening I saw Cinema, Aspirinas e Urubus (in English: Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures -- what a great title), a Brazilian film from 2005 set in 1942 and starring a German, Peter Kelnath.

Peter was very sexy/manly/sweaty/hairy/sexy/manly/spunk-puppy-ish, and he was kind enough to show us his pee-pee.

The film, even without that, would have been utterly delightful: a charming "odd couple" road movie, reminding me a bit of the buddy-buddy (non-gay, though) bits of Midnight Cowboy. Just two men friends.

Annoyingly, this was the first film by Marcelo Gomes, a director who is clearly too talented for his own good. Lyrical, and firmly set in the remote, drought-ridden rural flatlands of north-eastern Brazil, it felt unforced and real (until the end where the arrival of a very 1960s diesel locomotive was completely out of time in 1942. They wouldn't have used a 1960s car, so why did they think it was alright to use a 1960s locomotive?).

Anyway -- good film, but now too little time left to blog any more.

Until the morrow, then.

I wish! You've no idea how long it took me to find even those few stills. It's a mystery to me why film companies don't release the good bits. Obviously that's what we, the audience, want to see!
