I've rather lost track (no pun intended) of what M&GN images I've posted.
But this half a dozen is a particularly fine group, so if any (or all) have appeared before, they're well worth repeating.
That one is my computer desktop, incidentally.
The M&GN was formally founded in 1893, although its roots stretch quite a way further back than that into a group of small and seemingly unrelated companies formed during the railway manias.
Most of it was closed in 1959, the first major casualty of the massive post-War abandonment of railways that saw more than a third of the system shut down.
But it's best remembered for its service in that last decade, especially for the massive holiday specials it hauled from the Midlands to and from the coastal resorts of Norfolk.
The local services, day in, day out, shouldn't be forgotten, though.
For around a century, the lines that made up the M&GN were the main form of transport for thousands of people.

i really do enjoy your train posts and the wonderful pictures you find to go along with them - it really makes me want to clean out my garage and set up a big model railroad table with all the bits and pieces I have stashed away over the years - well, actually that is the first problem, the garage is packed full of all the other bits and pieces I have pack-ratted over the years - well, one of these days - - - in the meantime, thank you for your always interesting train posts -
