The newest freight locomotive to operate in Britain has just arrived -- here a group of four is seen in Canada, waiting for export:
And here the first pair, after their Atlantic crossing, are being unwrapped at Newport Docks:
They are possibly the ugliest locomotives ever to appear on Britain's railways:
The new Freightliner livery looks even worse on them than on the artist's impressions -- those roller-coaster grey curves at the front corners scream out their clash with the angularity of the underlying metal:
It's almost as if the design brief was to come up with something that would trap as much dirt as possible while also proving impossible for the wash machines to clean:
Both General Electric and Freightliner clearly feel they have no responsibility for the aesthetics that other railway users will have to suffer. What aggressively piggish companies they must be, with their new "fuck you" design.

Oh dear. So not only are they not being built over here and helping our own economy, they are also extraordinarily ugly and unflatteringly liveried.
With a bit of luck they will also prove to be terribly unreliable and get sent back or withdrwan very early.
Fingers crossed eh!? ;-[
