Memories are made of this

For some reason this pair of vintage photos has been nagging at the back of my mind.

They show perfectly ordinary scenes from the 1950s in Scotland, trains on tiny, remote branchlines. This second one is in Killin, where I used to have some business from time to time:

They are terribly evocative, I suspect because, at that time (long before my time!), they were just so ordinary.

What lovely photos! I wonder where the first one was taken. As to 'when' the second one must have been taken quite late in the 1950s when that face-lifted Hillman Minx was introduced

Since you asked... the 1st one was taken near Grand Tully on the Ballinluig-Aberfeldy line, in May 1959.

The Killin photo was taken in the same month and year.

Although we moved stateside in summer of 55, the carriages look exactly like the ones I used to ride regularly from Rickmansworth and then change to an electric to finish the trip into London - another great nostalgia trip - thank you
